Guidelines for Reviewers

Peer review is the core of a scholarly journal. Reviewers of Journal Intellectual Sufism Research (JISR) help the editors judge the merits of manuscripts and assist authors in improving their work.

The Review Process

The journal uses a double-blind peer review process: reviewers do not know the identity of the authors and vice versa.
Review invitations are sent with the manuscript abstract; the full text is available in the review module of this journal after acceptance of the invitation.
Reviews are conducted online through the OJS review module (Review -> Step 4).

Criteria for Evaluation

Originality — does the work present new knowledge or a new analysis of sufism/intellectual studies?
Methodology — are the research questions, methods, sources, and data sound and clearly described?
Relevance — is the topic within the scope of the journal and the field of Islamic spiritual/intellectual studies?
Clarity and language — is the manuscript clearly written and well-organised?
References — are citations accurate, relevant, and complete?

Reviewer Ethics

The manuscript is confidential; do not disclose its content to anyone before publication.
Decline the invitation in case of a conflict of interest (e.g. recent collaboration, supervision, or personal relationship with the author).
Provide honest, constructive comments; avoid hostile or defamatory language; do not suggest citing any work solely for the sake of the citation.
Complete and submit the review in a timely manner as requested by the editor.

Recommendations

Choose one of the official recommendations after review: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, Resubmit for Review, or Decline Submission. Please state the reason for Reject objectively via the comments to the editor.
